Quentin Tarantino saves the Weinstein brothers

Released last week in countries around the world, «Inglourious Basterds» has revived Quentin Tarantino's box office credibility, while at the same time saving the Weinstein brothers from bankruptcy.

On the success of a string of movies in the 90's that include «The English Patient», «Good Will Hunting», and the «Scream» series, Harvey and Bob Weinstein were able to sell their production company Miramax to Disney.

Since then, as The Weinstein Co., the two producers have produced a series of flops much to the delight of the industry, which had become tired of the brother's irascible and dictatorial character that recently threatened the survival of the new company.

However, thanks to the global success of «Inglourious Basterds», which took in close to $65 million in its first weekend around the world, the Weinstein brothers should remain solvent, even if they have to share the cost – and therefore also the revenues – of Tarantino's movie with Universal.
