Sinatra by Scorsese
The Frank Sinatra movie in the works for several years is finally being made.
Who better than Martin Scorsese, the maker of «Taxi Driver» and «The Departed», to take on this project? The life of Frank Sinatra is actually a condensed version of the Italian-American New Yorker's recurrent themes: movies, music, Italian culture, the mob, politics and recent American history.
Long blocked by the descendants of the legendary crooner, the biopic has finally received the green light from Sinatra's daughter because Scorsese is at the helm. According to rumors, Scorsese will adopt a collage style different from classic biographies – such as that used in «I'm Not There» by Todd Haynes, about Bob Dylan. Frank Sinatra himself has not yet been cast.
This is one of several Scorsese project that are ongoing: they include a documentary of deceased Beatle George Harrison; a gangster flick in which he is (finally) reunited with Robert De Niro; a biopic about Theodore Roosevelt starring Leonardo DiCaprio; a 17thC drama set in Japan about Spanish Jesuits starring Benicio Del Toro; a musical documentary called «The Long Play» starring his pal Mick Jagger; and a movie set in the Middle Ages with DiCaprio and Matt Damon. Scorsese's plate is full!
