A Bosnian returns to his hometown after living in Germany for 20 years.
1999. Profiting from the collapse of Communism, Divko returns to Bosnia after 20 years of exile in Germany. Accompanied by the young and beautiful Azra, whom he hopes to marry, and his beloved cat Bonny, he arrives in his hometown. Now powerful thanks to the money he made in Germany, Divko moves into his old house after getting rid of his former wife and their son Martin, whom he meets for the first time. But his return is rife with pitfalls, especially since the disastrous political situation is about to lead the country into an imminent civil war...
With Cirkus Columbia, Danis Tanovic, the director of No Man's Land, has made a smart and uplifting film inhabited by tough characters, despite the gravity of the subject, and full of hysterical and poetic comical scenes.
