The Infidel
Adopted at birth, a Muslim family man discovers his biological parents were Jews.
A not-very-devout Muslim, passionate Tottenham Hotspur fan and avid listener of 80's new wave, Mahmud is going through a rough patch: his mother has recently died, he discovers he was adopted and that his biological parents were Jewish, and his son wants to marry a girl whose father is an Islamist cleric and supporter of the Palestinian cause. While he pretends to be a good Muslim to appease everyone so the wedding can go ahead, Mahmud secretly begins to study the history of the Hebrews...
Pleasant English comedy with very funny moments despite the serious Jewish-Muslim subject matter. As with the similar – and successful – Four Lions, the butt of the cinematic joke is again Islamic fundamentalists, even though the Jewish community and western militants of all persuasions also get grazed along the way.
