A man locked in a spiral of alcohol and violence is saved by a woman who’s worse off than him.

In a Midlands suburb, Joseph (Peter Mullan) is angry at the whole world. In an excessive rage, he kills his dog, breaks a window, gets into bar fights and taunts a tough neighbor who has a pitbull. When he finds himself in a Christian thrift shop run by Hannah (Olivia Colman) one day, she speaks so softly to him that he's bowled over. But to him, Hannah, who lives in the nice part of town, is mainly a privileged woman whom he first insults. Thus starts a friendship that threatens James, Hannah's sadistic and brutal husband...

This feature debut by English actor Paddy Considine is striking in its intensity. The husband's fat fist at the wheel of a car is chilling, while the tenderness of a simple gesture, like Hanna tying a tie, is disarming. Tyrannosaur treats head-on the violence of daily life, in homes and on the street, of those who pick on people weaker than they are for no reason, as it looks at two lost souls who come together. In the end, there is hope.
