Filmmaker Dario Aguirre travels from Germany to Ecuador to help his parents.
As a young man, Ecuadorian Dario Aguirre emigrated to Hamburg, where he studied art and filmmaking, which is now his profession. After many years abroad, Aguirre goes back home to get his father out of a bad situation – his grill restaurant is in financial difficulty. What starts off as a business venture turns into a reunion between two men who have been estranged for many years.
Although César's Grill is a documentary, it could just as easily be a feature film. The story is airtight, and apart from a few slow scenes the plot is suspenseful, emotional, and dramaturgically smart. The talented Aguirre successfully manages to portray his own self-discovery and his relationship with his uncommunicative father (who is something of an alter ego) in a calm, unmelodramatic manner. César's Grill is a charming, heartwarmingly delightful film about reconciliation and love.
