A journalist charged with making a TV documentary about Rousseau interviews a boy on the subject.

On the 300th anniversary of the birth of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Marie (Anne Richard), a prime time TV journalist, decides to film an interview with 10-year-old Tom (Liam Kim), who seems to know all about the works of the philosopher from Geneva. She suggests Professor Stohler, a great Rousseau specialist, to do the interview, but he is at first reluctant. Tom then quickly manages to shake the eminent academic's certainty about his expertise. Determined to find the secret behind him, Marie upsets the boy, who wants nothing more than to live like his intellectual paragon: on the margins of society.

This academic film by Christophe Chevalier has neither intrigue nor a thrilling plot. Its strength is in not taking its audience for idiots – a rare thing in today's cinema - as it opens a debate on current events based on the ideas of Jean-Jacques Rousseau: can one live on the fringe of society and still be happy? Does the health of man depend on nature? Why be a consumer? What are ideas for? Why learn? What is the price of being a free man?
