Swedish thriller by Lasse Hallström: a detective asks a hypnotist to help track down a serial killer.

A serial killer massacres three people at various sites on the same evening. Only a baldy injured teenager survives. Kommissar Linna investigates the murder and asks a psychologist named Erik to hypnotize the boy so that the crime can be reconstructed and the killer caught. But the case gets increasingly mysterious - and the boy disappears from the hospital.

Lasse Hallström is an expert at sentimental, heartwarming movies like Chocolat, The Cider House Rules and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Great emotions and well-known actors: alternative film for mall shoppers. Hallström returns to Sweden after 25 years with this merciless thriller. His overblown horror scenes seem suggest he's trying hard to prove his toughness despite his sugary cinematic past. But the bloody images prove too much for a genre that relies on subtlety and the ending is too silly and dumb, without giving too much away here.
