In the wake of “L'auberge espagnole”, a new episode in the life of Xavier, a traveler propelled around the world by his emotions.
15 years ago in Barcelona, Xavier (Romain Duris) met Wendy (Kelly Reilly), Isabelle (Cécile de France) and Martine (Audrey Tautou). An Erasmus exchange which proved to have an effect of his future: full of travel and love, it would eventually become the main subject of his largely autobiographical books. In the wake of Barcelona, London and St. Petersburg, Xavier now sets off to conquer New York, where he’s reunited with the two children he had with Wendy, who is now in a relationship there. The destinies of these characters continue to cross paths, as Xavier finds himself taken in by Isabelle - for whom he did a favor - before welcoming Martine and his two children to his new apartment...
Third installment of the trilogy by Cédric Klapisch, after L'auberge Espagnole and Les poupées Russes, is a mixed bag of feelings, a happy reconstituted mess of former roommates who have just as much chemistry as always, even if they’re now almost in their 40’s. It remains to be seen whether audiences are interested in seeing them again in another 10 years or so. It all depends on how much goodwill Klapisch has towards his characters.
