Mr. Morgan's Last Love
Bittersweet story about an American widower (Michael Caine) in Paris who meets an impulsive young Frenchwoman.
Michael Caine plays an American in Paris, whose wife has died, leaving him less inspired by life. His loneliness is accentuated by the fact that he still doesn't speak French and by his emotional distance to his grown children. But then he meets a young dance teacher named Pauline (Clémence Poésy) who speaks English and takes a shine to him, and things get better – but their atypical friendship is not the only recipe for happiness.
After a strong first half, in which director/screenwriter Sandra Nettelbeck (Mostly Martha) skillfully navigates around clichés and kitsch, the relationship between the old man and the young woman unfortunately falls by the wayside. But those looking for a sensitive, calm and slightly old-fashioned movie that's not too melodramatic will enjoy it anyway. Especially fans of the great Michael Caine, now unfortunately in the twilight of his career.
