Thriller from Steven Soderbergh in which a psychiatrist prescribes a new antidepressant for his suicidal patient.

Despite her husband being released from prison (Channing Tatum) after four years behind bars, Emily (Rooney Mara) still battles depression and suicidal tendencies. She tries to take her life by driving into a wall at top speed. Emily is then assigned a psychiatrist (Jude Law) who works at the ER and decides to take her on as a regular patient, prescribing for her a new and revolutionary antidepressant. After rediscovering, for the first time in a long time, her libido, her appetite and a taste for life, Emily seems also to be a victim of side effects. But is she really sick?

Once again, Steven Soderbergh presents a puzzling, amazing and highly original thriller: by letting viewers at first think this is a movie attacking the pharmaceutical industry, Soderbergh tricks everyone by twisting Side Effects into film noir. One can only hope that the talented director and creator of remarkable films like The Informant, Magic Mike and Haywire will change his mind about retiring from filmmaking.
