In the ordered world of the hive, where every bee has a precise role and a mission to accomplish, Maya has a hard time finding her place. Awkward, immature and flighty, she attracts disapproval from the severe Buzzlina, counselor to the queen. She decides to go off and discover the wonderful world of the prairie, where she makes not only new friends, but also stumbles upon terrible enemies who threaten the hive…

Created more than a century ago by German children’s book author Waldemar Bonsels, Maya the bee is about to conquer a whole new generation. More than 20 years after her last TV series, the heroine has received a face lift to meet today’s standards. Credited on the Hollywood animated blockbuster Legend of the Guardians: the Owls of Ga'Hoole, German animator Alexs Stadermann’s expertise lends the project a certain modernity, with dynamic color and a sleek plot. Maya the Bee Movie is extremely simplistic and limited, targeted totally and exclusively at small audiences.
