Catapulted to the top of indie fame with The Squid and the Whale in 2005, which got him a Best Screenplay Oscar nomination, he confirmed his talents with Margot at the Wedding starring Nicole Kidman and Greenberg with Ben Stiller. Until he made Frances Ha, which, despite its charm and festival success, was somehow unsettling. As is While We’re Young: after a good start, it gets lost in a boring plot about awfully trite things and crashes in its last half hour. A complete waste of the talents of Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts, with a few clever bits about modern life and what is normal. Otherwise a great disappointment.
