On his arrival, Scamander causes a small catastrophe and lets his fantastic animals escape into the streets of the metropolis. It took Warner Studio five years to find a way to revive the Harry Potter franchise, which has generated almost eight billion dollars over eight films. Based on the textbook used by Harry Potter at Hogwarts, J.K. Rowling has developed a new story with new lead characters, which this time takes place in the US. That’s all it will surely take to attract crowds and fans, even though the result leaves much to be desired: not as funny or as effective in its ability to draw the audience into its universe, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them also lacks strong characters. As good as they may be elsewhere, Eddie Redmayne and Katherine Waterston are not very exciting this time. And despite a veritable ton of special effects, the magic remains astonishingly discreet as the film struggles to lay the foundations of a new world at the same level of quality as the original series, with its 2:13 built around a plot that is not very solid. It remains to be seen if the public will take to this new franchise, especially since the studio has already announced four sequels.
