Luxury label Gucci is jumping on the 3D movie bandwagon by designing 3D glasses for movie audiences.

3D glasses by Gucci planned

Hollywood is currently enthralled by 3D, hoping that audiences will pay more to see their movies if they have an added third dimension.

This may be so, but the only way to see a 3D movie properly is by putting on a horrific pair of impractical black-framed glasses that even Buddy Holly wouldn't wear. Awkward for everyone, complicated for those who already wear glasses.

At the recent 3D Summit (!) held in Los Angeles last week and attended by movie and video game bigwigs, a press release was sent out which announced that the luxury label Gucci is planning to bring out prescription 3D glasses for shortsighted viewers around the world.

This is good news according to Fox Sports chairman David Hill, who thinks this could add to the already great potential of 3D movies: «I have two teenaged girls, and they don't want to go on dates looking like they're going to do some spot welding.»

Gucci says it will have at least one model available in time for Christmas, when James Cameron's much-awaited «Avatar» is due to be released.
