Cannes films selected
The films for Cannes have been picked: it's the usual suspects.
The Cannes Film Festival seems to still be in the hands of a «select» aged few. New talent is still being forced to sit on the sidelines as the Old Boy's club retains its power over this influential media platform.
The competition therefore includes the umpteenth contributions of directorswell known on the Croisette: Ken Loach, Lars von Trier (photo: his «Antichrist»), Pedro Almodovar, Michael Haneke, Quentin Tarantino, Jane Campion, Alain Resnais, Gaspar Noé, Jacques Audiard and Ang Lee. It should be noted that except for the latter, all these directors have won at Cannes in the past. They have all been able to present at least one of their productions at the festival. Barcelona director Isabel Coixet is the only bit of fresh blood to be pumped into this old closed circle.
It should be noted that Heath Ledger's last film, «The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus», will also be shown outside the regular competition. Most likely in hopes of finding an American distributor, so it can finally be shown in the US.
The 62nd Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to run from May 13 to 24.
